Lots of calls about mold in bathrooms, basements etc.

IIt was raining a lot lately. Getting quite a bit of calls about mold. High humidity in the air over last few weeks was conducive to mold growth in damp areas w the houses. In the south east of the country average high humidity levels and warm temperatures make mold growth a problem.

Here, moisture control is the key. If mold is shoving up in your bathroom, clean up the mold and get rid of the excess water and moisture. Use forced air bathroom vent frequently. Leaky plumbing i our area is the biggest mold producer.  Any leak in plumbing system should be addressed immediately and repaired Clean mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water, and dry completely. 

In order to grow, molds produce tiny spores which can be found  in both indoor and outdoor air. mold spores land on a damp areas and begin growing and digesting materials they are growing on. in order to survive molds spores need moist, damp and warm environment.

Tips to control mold growth in your house:

1. in hot, humid  climates use dehumidifiers and air conditioner to reduce moisture in the air.

2. Be sure crawlspace under your home is well ventilated. Make sure foundation vents are open.

3. Install a plastic cover over dirt in crawlspaces this will keep moisture from rising in from the ground.

4 Watch for leaks in your plumbing. A small drip in in water or drain line may cause explosive mold growth in warm climate.
